What BBB does that Entruv never will
BBB publishes ratings and takes consumer complaints. A customer with a problem can go to BBB and file it, and the business can respond in public. That is a real service for people who feel wronged, and it is a different job from anything Entruv does.
Entruv does not check reviews, handle complaints or rate anyone. There is no complaint form and no score. If your customers expect a neutral place to raise a dispute, a BBB profile can give them one, and Entruv should not be used as a substitute for it.
Fees, timing and what the estimates say
Third party sources report that accreditation is a yearly fee that depends on business size and region. Small businesses are reported to pay about $500 to $1,500 a year, with some places at $3,000 or more. One source mentions a one time application fee of about $75, and one regional plan example starts from about $49 a month. Reports put the review at roughly 3 to 6 weeks. These are estimates, so ask your local BBB for current numbers.
Entruv publishes the listing for free once the badge check passes, and the optional gold badge is $39 once with no renewal. Over five years, a reported $500 a year is $2,500, against $39 once. The arithmetic is simple, but the products differ, so the cheaper option is only better if it covers what you need.
A narrow claim you can check yourself
Entruv makes one claim. Our crawler, EntruvRegistryCrawler/1.0, loads your page over HTTPS, reads the HTML your server sends and looks for the Entruv badge link. It does not run JavaScript, and it cannot see inside an iframe. If the link is there, the record is published. That is the whole test.
That narrowness is both the strength and the limit. A visitor cannot confuse it with a business audit, because it is not one. If you want to show a customer that the site they are on is run by the person named on the record, a badge does that. If you want a rating or a way to resolve a dispute, look at BBB.
